SEA TEACHER BATCH 6 AT TARLAC AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY
Day 15 in the Philippines (26th of August 2018)

On Sunday, my friends and I were supposed to have an excursion at farm near our hostel. Unfortunately, the excursion was canceled due to the bad weather. I was kind of dissapointed. But, I thought that was alright. I still had more days to explore the farm and had more time to prepare my lesson plan for teaching.

Day 16 in the Philippines (27th of August 2018)

Today, All Sea Teachers and Sea Tvet along with our buddies and Uni’s staffs went to swimming pool near our university. Since today is also holiday, we wanted to refresh our mind and going to swimming pool was also a substitue that we could not go to the farm yesterday. As we arrived at the swimming pool, we set up some food or we called this as small picnic and played some games afterwards. We had so much fun playing games together. After the game, some of us went for swimming while others went for having meal. After we finished, we went back to the hostel. At the hostel, I started preparing my lesson plan and working on the quiz that I will give to my students at Grade 10 tomorrow. Since my cooperating teacher, maam Sharon asked me to help her in contributing in tomorrow’s quiz, I tried quite hard to prepare some questions that will be included in the quiz. I just recaptured the lesson that maam Sharon had already given to the students during my assisting and observation activities in her class. And the quiz for tomorrow will be based on the lesson that the students already learned.

a)      Grade 10/A Science (1 pm – 2 pm)

Today my task was reviewing students prior lesson because after the review they would have a quiz. Maam Sharon as my cooperating teacher did not come to the class since asked to handle the class on my own. After the review for a few minutes I started to pass the quiz sheets to the students. They have 30 minutes to answer the quiz. And after the quiz was over, I asked the students give their answer sheets to their friends and after that we started to discuss the answer together.

b)      Grade 7/A Science (3 pm – 4 pm)

Today I did another observation and assisting maam Faith class at grade 7 Science. The activities were the students had to fill in the blank space, list of noun, adjectives, adverbs and verbs, and describe a person by using part of speech that the students were studying about. The class was quite noise when they students were describing their friends. But, Ms. Hidia (sea teacher student) and I tried to help maam Faith to tackle the noise. I also helped here to check the students notes and worksheets.

a)      Grade 11/B (9.30 am – 11.30 am)

This morning, before teaching grade 10 Science, I joined maam Sharon class that was grade 11 Agrihome. In her classroom I did an observation as well as helped maam Sharon to handle the class. During the class, there were some presentations by the students about communication. The class began quite late due to the technical error that unexpectedly happened. But, everything ran successfully afterwards.

b)      Grade 10/A Science (1 pm – 2 pm)

Today I taught The elements of short story to grade 10 Science students. In the beginning of the lesson, I divided the class into some groups and we started playing guessing games about matching some short stories pictures with their suitable titles. After that, I continued the lesson by explaining the elements of short stories. during the explanation asked the students several questions in order to get their attention and to make sure that they could understand about my explanaton. After the explanation, I asked the students to pair up and started to tell their favorite short stories to their partner. Then they have to come forward to tell their stories to all their friends. After the presentation, I gave students some short quiz in order to evaluate their understandings about the lesson that they have just learned. the problem that I faced during my teaching practice today was time management. Guessing games consumed much time of the lesson so that the quiz had to be conducted in a rush. But the good point was the students understood about my explanation since I included many pictures to strengthen their understandings.

c)      Grade 7/A Science (3 pm – 4 pm)

This afternoon, I did my observation and assisiting by joining maam Faith in her class. I came there with my partner Ms. Hidia as maam Faith’s student teacher. The topic of the lesson was elements of short story fable. The class activities were determining the short story elements, writing some questions about the story that was being discussed and answering the questions. The class was running successfully and I helped maam Faith to check the students work sheets as well as encourage students to do their works properly.

This afternoon, I did my teaching practice at grade 10 Science. The topic of the lesson was short story “The Necklace”. I continued the previous lesson that was about the elements of short story. In the beginning of the lesson I asked students about some questions related to the story that they already read. And also I tried to get their attention by showing some pictures on the slide about short story the necklace and they had to tell about the situation of the pictures. After that, I divided the class into several groups for doing posters presentation. There were 6 six groups in the classs and each group already got one topic about the element of story that they had to present in front the class. The presentation was running really well. And all students were actively participating in the presentation. After, the last group finished  presenting their posters, the next session was short quiz. And the short quiz was conducted in 10 minutes as well as the discussion. I still had problem with time management. Since I asked a lot of question in the beginning of the lesson, so it took much time.
